PostNord will deliver its final letter at the end of 2025: Here's what it means for you
Danes have become more and more digital, and what was once sent by letter is now received digitally by the vast majority of people. This means that there are very few letters left in Denmark. In fact, letter volumes have decreased by over 90 percent since 2000, and the volume of letters continues to decrease rapidly.
On the other hand, Danes are shopping online like never before. This means, that there is a growing need for fast and good delivery of Danish parcels, and we at PostNord are well equipped to help. That's why we're now focusing on becoming even better where Danes need us most - on parcels.
What this means for you
In the short term, this will not affect you - we will continue to deliver letters as you know it for the rest of the year. From 2026, this means that you will no longer be able to send and receive letters with PostNord in Denmark.
If you need to send basic letters (Letters, Business Letters, Direct Mail and Magazine Mail), it must be handed in to us by 18 December 2025. The last day to hand in Quick Letters, Registered Letters, Letters with Return Receipt and Postal Services is 29 December 2025. We will deliver the last letters on December 30 2025.
We've made sure that all postal labels purchased in 2024 - or to be purchased in 2025 - can be refunded for a limited time in 2026 if you don't use them in 2025. We'll let you know more about how you can do this as soon as possible.
On 1 June 2025, we will begin removing the 1,500 mailboxes that are currently located around the country. We expect all mailboxes to be removed no later than 31 December 2025. The mailboxes that have not been removed can still be used. It will be marked on each mailbox well in advance when it will be removed.

The decision will not affect our activities in the parcel market in the countries where PostNord operates, and PostNord's activities in the letter market will continue unchanged in Sweden.
Although this is a difficult decision, it is an important step towards a strong PostNord for the future, so we can continue our journey towards becoming the Danes' preferred parcel courier - and which will help ensure even better products in the parcel market.

What shall I do the rest of the year and from 2026 when I need to send my letters?
There will be no changes in 2025. You can send your letters with PostNord as you do today for the rest of the year. We will continue to deliver letters until 30 December 2025. From 1 January 2026, we will no longer handle letters. If you need to send letters from 1 January 2026, you will need to use another operator in the market. You can see all important dates further down the page.
Am I still able to send letters internationally?
You can send letters to and from abroad with PostNord for the rest of the year. PostNord Denmark has been appointed by the Ministry of Transport to handle international mail until 31 December 2025. After that, it will be up to the Ministry of Transport to decide, e.g. through a tender, who will handle the task in the future.
Where can I buy postal labels and stamps in the future?
Throughout 2025, you can buy postal labels and stamps the same places you buy them today: In one of PostNord's Parcel Shops or on postnord.dk. Stamps are used to send letters abroad. It has not yet been decided who will handle international mail from 1 January 2026. PostNord has been appointed to handle the task until 31 December 2025.
You can buy postal labels from PostNord until 18 December 2025.
For how long can I get a refund for postal labels purchased in 2024 or 2025?
We have ensured that all postal labels purchased in 2024 or 2025 can be refunded for a limited period in 2026, if they are not used in 2025. We will announce the details regarding this process as soon as possible.
Will the mailboxes be removed?
From 1 June 2025 we will begin removing the 1,500 mailboxes currently located around the country, and we will continue the removal until the end of 2025. Each mailbox well be marked well in advance when it will be removed. The mailboxes can be used until they are removed. All mailboxes are expected to be fully removed by 31 December 2025. We are working to ensure that the red mailboxes will have a new purpose when they no longer contain letters.
Will I still receive letters in the future?
Throughout 2025, you will receive letters as usual with PostNord, but from 1 January 2026, it will no longer be PostNord, but other actors on the market, who delivers letters to Danes.
What do I do if I am exempt from receiving Digital Post?
We expect that the public sector will continue to send physical letters to those who are exempt from Digital Post. It will just be with a different operator than PostNord.
Do I need to have a mailbox in the future?
It is a legal requirement in Denmark to have a mailbox, so you should still have one. We also use letter- and parcel post boxes for smaller parcels.
